Pre Owned 2007 Don Musser OM Natural Acoustic Guitar With Case
Truetone Music is proud to be partnered with the legendary musician Colin Hay in offering instruments out of his collection. Each comes with a signed certificate verifying the authenticity, assuring that it has been used on tour, in studio or personally by him. During his years with Men At Work, Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, and his own solo career, various instruments were used. Very few have become available, until now.
Here we have one of the most special pieces from the collection: a Don Musser OM. Acoustic aficionados may know all about him, but for those who don't, this is one of the best builder's over the last few decades. During this time, he's kept a low profile, despite having built gutiars for the likes of Bob Dylan and Eddie Van Halen (how's that for two wildly different players). Musser has somehow grown to having a legendary status yet also being under the radar. Since the mid-70's, he's done things his way, and his way is building unbelievable acoustics like this one.
Considering that he only makes a handful of guitars each year, finding one is, in intself, quite the feat. Obtaining one is an acheivement. We are proud to be able to present this Don Musser OM.
The back and sides of this beautiful instrument came from Musser’s “stash” of quality Brazilian - 60 years old - richly grained old growth Dalbergia Nigra. The Top is Colorado Engelmann Spruce and was cut from a log that Don personally selected and processed. The Neck is Honduras Mahogany and the Fingerboard is Ebony. The Bridge and Peghead veneer are also Brazilian Rosewood and the edge binding is curly Honduras Mahogany. The finish is Nitrocellulose lacquer, giving it a great look that accents the beauty of the wood grain.
The scale length is 25 ½” inches and the fret slots were cut with a saw having .023 inches of kerf. The neck has been attached to the body with an aliphatic resin glued butt joint that has been reinforced with threaded inserts, threaded rods and cap nuts with washers. The neck is reinforced with a fully adjustable double action truss rod that adjusts thru the sound hole with an Allen wrench.
The Nut and Saddle were cut from legal African Elephant Ivory. The soundbox was assembled at a relative humidity of 30-40%. The guitar should be stored in the case at all times when it is not being played. Under extremely dry conditions - relative humidities below 20% - it may be necessary to add moisture with a sound hole humidifier. According to Don Musser himself, this guitar, with proper care and handling, should provide many years, perhaps even lifetimes, of playing.
Originally built for Norman Harris (of Norman’s Rare Guitars), it includes a hand-written letter from Don Musser. Also, with the guitar comes a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Colin Hay, and the original hardshell case. It's in excellent condition, has been vetted and setup to play perfectly, and is ready to go.
Truetone has enjoyed a long friendship with Colin, and we are excited to offer the first pieces from the collection here. Not only are they instantly collectible, but they can also be put to good use right away!
