Just in, an amazing Waterloo WL-14X Scissortail - a perfect guitar for anyone that wants a high quality, hand-made in the U.S., small body acoustic. This came to us via a local studio owner, who never made use of it. It has been vetted by the techs in our repair shop and set up to play perfectly. The original TKL hardshell case is included.
Drawing its name from the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher — a bird species common to the Central Texas Hill Country — the WL-14 Scissortail is a special edition WL-14 that pays homage to the "Oriole" guitars produced by Kalamazoo between 1940 and 1942. Built with maple back and sides and vintage-inspired X-bracing, the Scissortail brings excellent projection and focus to the flagship WL-14 series while retaining its woody, characteristic tone. A natural finish coupled with distinctive tortoise-style binding sets this instrument apart from other WL-14 models, along with an original Scissortail decal applied to the headstock in true-to-era fashion.
The Scissortail version of the WL-14 features solid maple back & sides, giving the guitar a brighter tone that is still very balanced. It has excellent clarity across the tonal spectrum, and great note separation when strummed. The neck is super comfortable, and the guitar is very lightweight (it's the first thing we noticed when pulling it out of the case). It's in top notch condition, other than a tiny ding in the finish on the top, which is only visible at certain angles. The guitar was barely ever even played, but we did give it a fresh set of strings and full setup.
All Waterloo models are handmade in Austin, Texas. As a part of Collings Guitars, these are amazing instruments at an incredible value. Every time we get a Waterloo in, we're thoroughly impressed - and they typically go fast. Don't miss out on this one!
