Up for sale is a vintage guitar that brings you classic solid-body tones in an iconic package, but in a rare version, straight out of 1976.  What else is from that year?  How about both Rocks by Aerosmith and the movie Rocky - as well as this rocking guitar, a vintage Hagstrom Swede.

The Hagstrom Swede was very much influenced by the Les Paul; not just the obvious body shape similarity, but also the choice of mahogany body and neck and humbucking pickups.  Also, it has separate volume and tone controls for each pickup, rather than the series of on/off switches so widely used by Hagstrom previously. It was very much Hagstrom's flagship model, existing as a six string guitar and a companion Swede bass. But the Hagstrom Swede was not just another 1970s Les Paul copy - it's a really great guitar with its own sound and feel.

This bicentennial gem also comes from Norwegian guitarist/ songwriter (of the 80’s multi-platinum group, A-Ha), Pal Waaktaar’s collection.  The neck plays very well and is broad enough to provide a nice grip for chords yet remaining slim enough for the slickest of lead lines and articulate playing.  The single cutaway offers improved access to the upper frets, while the controls are laid out within easy reach without interfering with the playing experience. This guitar is in adorned with nickel hardware with Hagstrom's unique Sustain Block Tailpiece that gives you plenty of tone and sustain.

This Hagstrom Swede has been loaded with Throback Maxium Vintage SLE-101 pickups, which are a significant upgrade.  It also shows others signs of being modified, as it has holes from previous tuner swaps (Grover Imperial tuners are currently on).  Also, it has aftermarket volume & tone knobs.

Clean or distorted this guitar is versatile enough for any playing situation. It's in good condition, considering that it's nearly 40 years old - there's "honest player wear" on the body, but nothing major.  The guitar comes with a hardshell case, and has been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop. It's a serious score for those that know!
