Fender Custom Shop Exotic 1965 Stratocaster Cocobolo NOS Natural With Case

We at Truetone Music are always looking to come up with something you haven't seen before, especially when in partnership with Fender.  For this take on a classic 60's era Strat, we went a step further - going to the Custom Shop in Corona, CA to hand select the wood for an exclusive run of guitars.  We were escorted into the wood vault, to go through their finest collection of wood spreads.  From that, we designed a batch of 15 guitars that are all one of a kind.  Within that, there is only one Stratocaster in Cocobolo, and this is it.

We are excited to present this guitar - and before we say anything else, we'll pause here so that you can check out the photos.  There's even a shot of the raw wood, to add to the story.

The Alder body is topped with a gorgeous Cocobolo top - that's the main calling card of this guitar.  The NOS lacquer finish in Natural allows the wood grain to really show. The final result blew us away when it landed.  Cocobolo is always eye grabbing but this particular spread is really something else.  We hand-picked it for the unique grain.  Even though every spread presented was great, this one in particular stood out as the winner.

 

The 65 Strat "C" neck shape is super comfortable.  We went for this profile to keep it period correct and provide a guitar with a slightly thicker option than the 60's Oval C profile, which is more common on Custom Shop guitars.  It's a great vintage feeling Strat neck, topped with a dark AAA rosewood fretboard.  To add a touch of modern preference, we did it with a 9.5" radius and 6105 frets, making it easy to play.  You can bend in the upper register without worrying about fretting out.

It's not just about the looks - this is an amazing sounding guitar.  It's loaded with a set of Custom Shop Fat 60's pickups.  They provide mellow vintage tones but with enough bite to cut through the mix with crisp articulation, and are over-wound for a hefty low-end punch.  Alnico 2 magnets, Formvar magnet wire, period-correct cloth wire, and a fiber bobbin keep it accurate to what you would expect in a vintage Strat, with a warm, sweet output.  The reverse-wound, reverse-polarity middle pickup eliminates hum for whisper-quiet performance.  The tone is incredible.

Other features include a Mother of Pearl dot inlays, a period correct bridge, vintage tuners, and a bone nut.  The guitar comes with a Custom Shop case, strap and Certificate of Authenticity.
