Time to rock the low end with this amazing and rare Fender Subsonic in Black! This model was made for just a few years and is rather hard to find. We see a LOT of Fender guitars here, and this one caught our attention right off the bat. Not only is it a rare bird, but it's also super clean - the previous owner barely played it.
This Y2K guitar brings you classic Fender designs with a unique twist: it's a Baritone guitar. That's right take the iconic Strat body with a 27" scale to give you thick rich tones. The guitar features an alder body paired with a bolt-on maple neck with 22 medium-jumbo frets, 9.5" radius, and a 1.6875 nut width. This provides a comfortable feel and stability. This Subsonic is in the HSS format giving you the best of both worlds of pickup configurations.
This particular one has been upgraded with a Seymour Duncan Seth Lover humbucker in the bridge position and Lace Sensor Chrome Dome pickup in the middle position, while retaining its original American Strat single-coil in the neck. The other original pickups are included in the case. For more on the upgraded pickups, here's the official word:
- The Seth Lover bridge model gives you that warm, airy, open tone by striking just the right balance of low-end warmth with a smooth but articulate top end. Chords will have a full, open sound, and single notes will have a soft yet articulate feel. The Seth Lover vintage output humbucker pickups are carefully hand built in Santa Barbara to Seth Lover’s original exacting specs. The butyrate bobbin molds are created by the same factory that built the original P.A.F. mold for Gibson. Other key features include our specially manufactured 42AWG plain enamel mag wire, nickel silver cover, 2.5-inch alnico 2 bar magnet, custom machined metal and maple spacers, and nickel silver bottom plate.
- The Chrome Domes have been praised for both their "sweet, rounded tones" and simultaneously described as sounding like "a Strat on steroids." This was accomplished by modifying a guitar pickup already known for its bell-like tone and rich history, the original Gold Sensor. Lace Sensor took the Gold, long a favorite of such artists as Eric Clapton, and "slammed and crammed" it with "hotter magnetic", and reverse wound the middle pickup, then wrapped the pickups in chrome-plated heavy brass.
Of course you get classic Strat controls with a 5-way selector, and Volume and two Tone controls. This instrument has a rock solid tremolo bridge with smooth bridge saddles. If you want a guitar that can dominate in the lower register with the feel of a Strat this is your guitar.
This Fender Subsonic Baritone is in excellent condition and comes with a hardshell case and includes the original pickups. It's been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop. This is a rare bird for sure. We think this one will go quick!
