Here at Truetone Music, we get a lot of amazing guitars, and in particular, Les Pauls. One of the nicest to arrive this year is this: a Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab '60 Les Paul Standard, done by the legendary Tom Murphy himself. Built in 2018 in Gibson's Custom Shop in Nashville as part of a limited run for Wildwood Guitars, this is a prime example of the quality that one can expect. From the general craftsmanship to the finest detail, everything is as perfect as it gets for a Les Paul. Each is a handcrafted masterpiece with the character, feel and vibe of an original.
The flame maple top on this one is absolutely gorgeous, and is painted in a special color called "Dirty Lemon". It's a great vintage look, and a little different that everything else you see out there. That's a big part of why we love this one so much. Anything done by Tom Murphy is special, and this shows it. He painted and aged this one himself, which takes it to a whole nother level. Over the years, the legend of Murphy has grown, to the point where he now leads the Murphy Lab at the Gibson Custom Shop. This guitar in particular was done by him, and it shows - the finish is absolutely incredible.

Everything on the guitar is original and built to Wildwood's specs for a 1960 Les Paul Standard. This includes the use of hide glue, which is a protein based adhesive that creates the greatest possible energy transfer between pieces of wood. With that, you get the most resonance and sustain possible. This one in particular is extremely musical and sings even when unplugged.
The neck shape is a 1960 V2 profile, accurate to the year and super comfortable. The original guitars had a slimmer neck that players loved back then, and still do today. Many find it much easier to play than the '59 neck profile, which is thicker. So if you want a classic Les Paul that has a faster playing neck, this is perfect. The Gibson Custom Shop absolutely nailed the feel of a '60 Les Paul Standard.

Gibson incorporated Wildwood spec Custombuckers, and the results are truly impressive. These pickups exude a remarkable vintage feel, transporting you back to a historic era as soon as you plug them in. They possess all the sought-after qualities of classic PAFs: a warm and defined low-end, a gritty upper-midrange, a deep growl in the low-mids, and beautifully sweet and resonant highs. The bridge pickup boasts a powerful and articulate punch. Switching to the neck pickup brings a warm, inviting, and expressive tone that is smooth and satisfying.
Other features include period correct hardware like a No-Wire ABR-1 bridge, lightweight aluminum stop bar tailpiece, single line double ring Kluson tuners and a True Historic pickguard. Everything you expect and want, it's right here.
The original hardshell case, and Certificate of Authenticity and all other paperwork is included. This is the complete package, and considering how much these are new, it's a great deal. The guitar is in excellent condition and has been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop.
