Truetone Music is proud to be partnered with the legendary musician Colin Hay in offering instruments out of his collection. Each comes with a signed certificate verifying the authenticity, assuring that it has been used on tour, in studio or personally by him. During his years with Men At Work, Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, and his own solo career, various instruments were used. Very few have become available, until now.

Here at Truetone Music, we are fortunate enough to get some of the coolest, most unique guitars by some of the best builders in the world. This is especially true when it comes to Gretsch Custom Shop guitars by legendary Masterbuilder Stephen Stern. We've had plenty, and loved them all, but that ride has come to an end - Stern has rode off into the sunset with a well-deserved retirement.

Also fortunately, we have a great client base that collected these guitars, and occassionally one will be become available. This creates an excellent opportunity - a chance to get an incredible Gretsch Custom Masterbuilt G6128CS Duo Jet built by Stephen Stern, which was here at Truetone as a new guitar in 2013, and has been with Colin Hay ever since.

This stunning guitar is a reimagining of a classic model. Ever since the single-cut Duo Jet emerged in the 1950's, players from George Harrison to Chris Cornell have favored Gretsch's main solid body guitar. It provides variety of tonal options, and is incredibly versatile. Not only that, it looks amazing too! The top is White, with the back & sides being Black, giving it a great, distinguished look. The vintage vibe is enhanced with a slightly Distressed finish, resulting in a truly special guitar.

The Duo Jet has a mahogany body with a maple top, and is quite resonant. We noticed that before plugging it in. And, it's not too heavy, weighing in at 7.90 lbs. It will be easy to keep strapped on standing up all night. The neck profile is super comfortable, with the classic Gretsch C shape profile. It's a mahogany neck with an ebony fretboard, adorned with thumbnail Mother of Pearl inlays. Having a Bigsby B3C is a perfect for expressive playing and a completion of what a Gretsch like this offers.

For tone, we went the classic route, with a set of TV Jones Filtertrons. They capture the vintage twang and growl characteristic of the late 1950's Duo Jet. Designed from an analyzed 1959 "Pat. Applied For" Filter'Tron, you get a classic, vintage sound out of these pickups. Positioned etween a typical Fender (bright single-coil) and Gibson (darker & thick humbucker) with a unique growl when you dig in. Clean, compressed treble and mids breath life over a tight and controlled low-end. If you're a fan of Gretsch, you'll love these.

The guitar includes the original case, paperwork a Gretsch Certificate of Authenticity, plus another certificate signed by Colin Hay. The guitar been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our repair shop, and has immediately become one of our favorite guitars here.

With Stephen Stern having retired, this G6128CS is not only an amazing playing and visually stunning guitar, but it's also truly collectible. After all, there's only one out there previously owned by Colin Hay. We don't except it to last long.
