One of the world's most iconic instruments, this Hofner Violin bass is inspired by the one made in 1963 for Paul McCartney. It features the classic body shape with flamed maple back & sides, an arched spruce top, an unbound 2 piece flamed maple neck topped with a rosewood fretboard, and "2 on a strip" tuners. Additionally, it has the correct Hofner Staple pickups. There's only one way to get the classic sound, and this is it!
A special vintage finish Violin Bass created by Hofner's master in the violin lacquer department. Beautifully aged to look authentically vintage, but with the advantage of a brand new bass. Very special and secret varnishes are used to achieve the remarkable aged finish. Each bass is a unique instrument, no two are exactly alike as the ageing process is all done by hand.
Hand-made in Germany, all models are supplied with a pearloid pickguard (not mounted) and include a Höfner Vintage strap and hardshell case.
The sound of a Violin Bass is unlike any other bass. When used with flatwound strings it produces a distinctive deep and penetrating thud not unlike an upright double bass. This sound can be used to emulate those pop sounds of the 1960s or slightly overdriven in a modern rock band to provide a deep driving bass. It is also commonly used today in studios for recording bass lines for dance music. It has also seen increasing use in reggae bands where a deep driving bass is always wanted. Despite being one of the smallest basses available it easily produces massive bass lines and is remarkably versatile.
