Used And Vintage

Truetone Music is proud to be partnered with the legendary musician Colin Hay in offering instruments out of his collection. Each comes with a signed certificate verifying the authenticity, assuring that it has been used on tour, in studio or personally by him. During his years with Men At Work, Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, and his own solo career, various instruments were used. Very few have become available, until now.

Martin's Norman Blake Signature 000-28 is quite an interesting take on the "vintage guitar that never was" concept. It is built on a rosewood herringbone 000 size body shaped like a 14 fret model, but the neck joins at the 12th fret. This results in the bridge being located nearer the center of the lower bout, adding depth to the tone and strengthening the bass response. It's sort of a Martin version of the early 1930's 12-fret Gibson flat tops that Norman is known to favor, a hybrid that actually works very well.

Other features include beautiful straight-grained Indian rosewood back and sides, a spruce top with "forward shifted" scalloped braces and a modified V-shape neck. The 19 fret ebony fretboard has some lovely delicate shaped pearl inlay. The top is trimmed in herringbone with an ivoroid outer layer and Style 28 rosette, an ebony bridge and the traditional tortoise plastic pickguard. The headstock overlay features Martin's Golden Era decal and Waverly open gear engraved strip tuners with ivoroid buttons.

The label is signed by Norman Blake and C.F. Martin IV.  It identifies this guitar as # 58 of the limited edition run.  Built in 2004, not very many were made, and they've become rather hard to find.  So, it's collectible in it's own sense - add in the fact that it was owned and used by Colin Hay, and this becomes a very special piece.

This 000-28 is in excellent condition, and has been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop.  The original hardshell case is included.  Also, with the guitar comes a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Colin Hay.

Truetone has enjoyed a long friendship with Colin, and we are excited to offer the first pieces from the collection here. Not only are they instantly collectible, but they can also be put to good use right away!
