The Maxmaster
Ever since the Jazzmaster was designed in the late 1950's, players have been drawn to the sound, feel and look of this legendary model. Over the years, it evolved, but for many, it's all about going back to the original vibe. And for some, the 1959 edition is "the one". Why? This Fender Custom Shop '59 Jazzmaster right here might answer that. And for those that want something truly unique, the aesthetic of this one may seal the deal. Here at Truetone, everyone is a player, and we like to get everyone involved in the creation of Custom Shop guitars - we've started a run of "Staff Picks". This is one of the first, from our long time customer, employee and friend Max Kane. You may know him from his band All Systems Know, or seen him around L.A. on various stages. You may also recognize his work on our social media posts, as many of those sweet shots of guitars around Santa Monica come from him. We asked Max what his dream guitar would be, and the outcome was this '59 Jazzmaster in Sherwood Green with a matching headstock. It doesn't stop there - keep reading and you'll see why this one is special. First, here's what he said about it:
"Sherwood Green might very well be my favorite Fender color. You most commonly see it on Stratocasters or the occasional Jazz bass, but I really want it on a Jazzmaster. I really like matching headstocks, as inspired by both mid-60's guitars and the Japanese-made Contemporary Series from the 80's. I also wanted to make this one truly unique, so we went for the silver anodized pickguard and aluminum pickup covers to match. The cherry on top was the metal switch tip."
Max chose to do this one as a Closet Classic with a lacquer finish, so you get the vintage vibe, but without any wear. It looks great on the alder body, which is lightweight and resonant. That, combined with the super comfortable '59 C neck shape, results in a Jazzmaster that you'll want to play all night. There is a modernized tweak, as this guitar has a 9.5" radius and Narrow Tall (6105) frets. This makes it great for playing even when high on the neck and bending notes. Max requested for the finish to be worn off on the back of the neck, to give it a nice broken-in feel.
Another main feature is that it's equipped with the RSD J-Bridge. This is Fender's proprietary take on a new & improved bridge for offset guitars, it's there for better stability, with brass saddles for extra warmth. This bridge is only available on Custom Shop guitars. Due to the extremely positive reaction, we've started requesting it on nearly every Jazzmaster we do. Max knew right away he wanted this bridge on the guitar.
We stayed period correct for the rest of the hardware, going with vintage tuners, string retainer, etc. The guitar comes with a Custom Shop case, strap and Certificate of Authenticity.
The idea is to have everything you'd expect in a vintage Jazzmaster, modern playability, an improved upon bridge, vintage style pickups, and with a super cool look. Big thanks to Max for dreaming this one up, and congrats to whomever is fortunate to get it! Come to Truetone Music to experience this unique Jazzmaster today, or make it yours right here.
