Used And Vintage

Truetone Music is proud to be partnered with the legendary musician Colin Hay in offering instruments out of his collection. Each comes with a signed certificate verifying the authenticity, assuring that it has been used on tour, in studio or personally by him. During his years with Men At Work, Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, and his own solo career, various instruments were used. Very few have become available, until now.

Straight out of the mid 90's, we have one of the better acoustic basses made, especially given the price.  This is the Martin B-65, a model no longer offered and difficult to find. If you want a small-bodied bass that is tons of fun, sounds bigger than expected, and looks great too, you've found it here.

The bass boasts a specially scalloped solid spruce top and book-matched solid flamed maple back and sides, providing enhanced power and projection. Its 34" scale mahogany neck, complete with an ebony fingerboard and 23 frets in excellent condition, offers smooth playability. Ebony is also used for the bridge, along with white end pins featuring black dots. Additional details include cream side dots along the fretboard, a multi-ring rosette, chrome enclosed Martin tuners, and a tortoise-colored binding and pickguard.

Acoustically, the B-65 really resonates.  A lot of acoustic basses can sound a bit anemic, but not this one - it's punchy, with a strong low end, and sings in the higher register.  One plugged in, it really impresses, thanks to the LR Baggs pickup/preamp.  It's one of the early Element Active systems, with volume and tone controls.  You'll get the amplified "real tone" of the bass with the ability to shape the output.

This B-65 acoustic bass is in great  condition, with a bit of player wear and a small ding or two but nothing major.  It's been setup to play perfectly by the techs in our shop.  The original hardshell case is included, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Colin Hay.

Truetone has enjoyed a long friendship with Colin, and we are excited to offer the first pieces from the collection here. Not only are they instantly collectible, but they can also be put to good use right away!
