A Classic Jazzmaster Reborn

Designed expressly for jazzers (but adopted by surfers) and introduced in 1958, the Jazzmaster combined refined looks with a warm, mellifluous voice and new tremolo system. It evolved over the years, but the 1962 Jazzmaster is known as the most influential model that helped define new musical genres - that's what we went for with this Custom Shop recreation, but with a few twists for modern players.

The two-piece alder body sports the iconic offset curves designed for guitarists who usually played seated, and also wears an authentic lacquer finish.  While most of what you see out there is aged/relic'ed, we opted to for the NOS (New Old Stock) treatment on this one.  The goal was to make it brand new, and nothing else but brand new - just like it was fresh off the line in 1962.   Our friends at the Custom Shop picked out the lightest piece of alder on hand at the time.  And for the color, we went for something classic that will stand out: Vintage Blonde with a tortoise shell pickguard.  As an added touch, we requested cream for the pickup covers, knobs and switch tip, to match the body.  The result is perfect.

The tinted, Quartersawn maple neck sports a period-accurate ’62 Jazzmaster C profile, while the dark rosewood fingerboard has been updated to 9.5”-radius and Narrow Tall (6105) frets.  It's extremely comfortable to play, especially with this modern tweak.  Tied together with ultra-flexible, vintage-style Jazzmaster wiring—including the famous “lead/rhythm” circuit, complete with thumbwheel controls—the Custom Shop Vintage Jazzmaster single-coil pickups sound mellow and fat but have the versatility to sound great when overdriven; this is the model’s calling card.
