Used And Vintage Amps

Here at Truetone Music, we love vintage amps, and are lucky enough to have had a ton over the years.  One that we haven't seen many of at all is the early 60's Fender Pro.  It's a bit of a rare animal, as other models were produced in much higher quantities.  It was made from 1946 to 1965, and is characterized by its dual 6L6-family power tubes and single 15" speaker.  From 1960 - 1963, the Pro was changed, along with other amps, to be covered in brown Tolex and have front-mounted controls, with the output pushed to 40 watts. Eventually it was replaced by the Pro Reverb, but for some, the early 60's version is the way to go.

We are also fortunate to have sources for killer vintage gear such as Greg Leon - a local legend, not only as amp guru but also for his influential and important role in the rock/metal scene of the late 70's and early 80's (including stints in Quiet Riot and Dokken).  For us, Greg is a part of the Truetone family as our amp repair tech.  We rely on him as the resident vintage amp expert.  This was an easy one for him to vet - as it used to be his!

This 1962 Fender Pro is a truly amazing amp, and a great deal on the vintage market.  This is a "player's grade" amp, in that it's not all-original (if it were, it would be priced much higher!).  Here's a full list of what has been done:
  • Professional recover & replaced grill cloth
  • Speaker re-coned (1999)
  • Power Transformer replaced
  • Replaced filter caps
  • All electrolytic bypass caps replaced
  • 3-prong grounded cord
  • New handle
This is one of the nicer vintage amps we have right now, and also is priced reasonably - we've seen them go for much more.  For those that appreciate the simplicity, reliability and durability of vintage Fender amps like this, it's hard to beat one that has been owned and maintained by a professional amp tech and vintage expert.  After 60 years, this one is still going strong.  It's a great score, and not to be passed up.
