 IMPECCABLE CRAFTSMANSHIP

The Gretsch Custom Shop is where the time-honored legacy reaches its creative apex. No instruments epitomize the extraordinary expertise and attention to detail of Gretsch’s most trusted hands like Custom Shop instruments. From modern versions of legendary Gretsch instruments to artist tribute models and specially requested one-off guitars, the Gretsch Custom Shop takes “That Great Gretsch Sound” to an entirely new plane, but also preserves and perfects it.

Truetone Music is proud to have a long and close relationship with Gretsch, especially with the Custom Shop.  Every year, we make a pilgrimage there to sit down with Masterbuilders to cook up a batch of Custom Shop guitars.  Sometimes we go for vintage-styled recreations, sometimes we go for modernized tweaks.  Sometimes it's a classic color, sometimes it's a totally new color or even reclaimed wood.  Either way, they always knock it out of the park!

This G6134CS 1955 Taos Turquoise Penguin is a result of this partnership.  Originally designed with the legendary Stephen Stern, we've kept this build going after his retirement.  Put simply, it's too cool not to!

A reinvisioned recreation of the original Penguin, it has the classic Gretsch sound and feel, but with unbelievably cool aesthetic.  The color is Taos Turquoise, accented beautifully by the silver sparkle binding.  Don't forget to take note of the how the Gretsch logo on the headstock looks in silver sparkle against the Taos Turquoise color.  The nickel hardware matches perfectly.  We chose to do this one as a light Relic, to give it an aged feel - the result is a beautiful guitar with a Southwestern vibe.

It's not just about the look - you'd be hard pressed to find a better playing or sounding Gretsch guitar anywhere.  The C shape neck is extremely comfortable.  We went with the Ray Butts Full Fidelity FilterTrons at Stern's suggestion, as he felt these are the most authentic sounding pickups to choose from.  You get the full clarity and bite expected from FilterTrons, and the treble bleed control allows you to ease up without losing highs.

Other features include a Bigsby B3G, rocking bar bridge, aged nickel hardware, Mother of Pearl engraved hump inlays, and a bone nut.  The guitar comes with a Custom Shop case, a special El Dorado strap and signed Certificate of Authenticity.

It's a stunning guitar, and one you won't see anywhere else - because it's the only one out there!  This is a truly unique take a classic guitar, ready for the stage or studio.  Come to Truetone Music to experience it in person, or make it yours right here.
